THE DEPARTMENT OF OFF-CAMPUS STUDENT SERVICES

The Department of Off-Campus Student Services (OCSS) is located on the on the second floor of the University Center, Room 236. This office has a variety of services and programs for the University of Miami community including advice and guidance for seeking off-campus housing, managing the Off-Campus Housing Database and advising student groups focused on off-campus and commuter student needs.

OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING DATABASE (www.miami.edu/off-campus-services)
Access to this website is open to the University of Miami community. Property owners and renters can list and view pictures, descriptions and prices of Miami-Dade County properties. Most of the listings are "student-friendly" and offer some of the most fair and competitive prices in the county. Students and community members have found great success in housing placement by using this site.

GUIDANCE & ADVICE
If you are considering living off-campus and would like general advice and information, please stop by to pick up rental listings, informational guides or to make an appointment with one of our staff members to help you with the process of finding housing. Although we cannot recommend any realtors, we'd be happy to guide you to many other community listings of available housing in the area and assist you in finding the right neighborhood for your comfort and budget.

STUDENT GROUPS
The Association of Commuter students is advised out of OCSS; if you would like further information on joining this very active student group, please visit their website at http://www6.miami.edu/studorgs/acs/.

Great Start is another program that is hosted out of OCSS.  Great Start is an overnight, pre-orientation program designed to promote and emphasize college adjustment and campus involvement opportunities. The program's goal is to help you feel like a part of the University and give you a chance to meet other commuter students. Students who participated in Great Start have said the program greatly contributed to a positive transition from high school to college.  Several of the participants return to the program to serve as Great Start Counselors. http://www.miami.edu/greatstart

Also, the Commuter Advisory Board (CAB) is advised out of OCSS. This group of students is organized to voice the concerns of the off-campus/commuter and to plan programs focused specifically for the off-campus community. If you are interested in joining, please stop by the office for additional information.
