Title/Position: Assistant Professor of ClinicalProfile:
Dr. Presti combines her love of teaching and patient care with her roles as Assistant Professor of Clinical and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Teaching and mentoring student nurses in the undergraduate BSN program, she has been honored twice as Clinical Faculty of the Year since 2012. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Miami Dade College in 1999, and upon graduation was hired as a clinical staff nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center intensive care unit. She went on to teach in the Critical Care Internship program as a Critical Care Educator and ACLS Coordinator at Jackson’s Department of Education and Development. Dr. Presti subsequently earned a Baccalaureate and Master’s degree from Barry University (2004, 2008). An advance practice nurse since 2008, she earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the UM’s School of Nursing and Health Studies in 2012. She has been involved in transcultural nursing, teaching in Australia, Chile, and Brazil. She continues to practice as a nurse practitioner at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s cardiothoracic/surgical intensive care unit and is an AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor. As current chair of the School of Nursing and Health Studies Academic Technology Committee, she is interested in dynamic and novel teaching strategies promoting student engagement and critical thinking. She teaches Role Transition, Pathophysiology, and in the Summer Scholars program, introducing the health care field to high school students. She has also previously taught Fundamentals of Nursing and has been clinical faculty across the BSN and MSN curriculum.
