In September 2008, the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies was designated a WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Human Resources Development and Patient Safety.  As one of just 11 nursing-related collaborating centers in the United States, the School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS) is proud to hold this elite designation.  The research and educational activities of the Center are designed to support the WHO goal of “Health for All,” with a particular emphasis on the areas of patient safety and nursing human resources.

As a collaborating center, SONHS will:

ENHANCE patient safety through educational activities, virtual coursework, and research

ANALYZE the impact of nursing shortages on patient safety

EXAMINE nursing retention strategies to strengthen regional workforces

BUILD nursing faculty in the Americas through consultation on new doctoral programs

EXPAND student exchange programs—presently in Chile, Haiti, Mexico, and Spain—to more countries
