Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are master’s prepared advanced practice nurses who administer a full range of anesthetics to all patient age groups across health care settings. You can also visit the AANA website at www.AANA.com to learn more about requirements to become a CRNA.The UM Nurse Anesthesia Program is a full-time program with 42 lecture credit hours that begins each fall semester (August) and is completed in 28 months. Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science in Nursing. Students pursue a course of study that integrates evidence based practice and simulated learning to clinical practice. This dynamic learning process prepares graduates to function effectively and safely using a full range of specialty procedures, anesthesia techniques, and equipment. Students admitted to the program come from diverse backgrounds, are experienced nurses with at least one year in critical care, and are highly qualified academically and professionally.

University of Miami is located at the crossroads of the Caribbean and the Americas in tropical Miami-Dade County, Florida. This location provides a unique multicultural environment in which to study and practice. The program benefits from its relationship to the University of Miami’s Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and is the only CRNA program in Florida to partner with a major international academic health center. Clinical instruction is taught by highly skilled and specialized nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists. The program’s major clinical sites include: University of Miami Hospital, Jackson Health System which includes the Ryder Trauma Center, UM/Sylvester Cancer Center, UM/Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Miami Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Plantation general Hospital, South Miami Hospital, Westside Regional Medical Center,  Veteran’s Administration Hospital.

The program is fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs (COA). Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Examination administered by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists (CCNA).
