The University of Miami, School of Nursing and Health Studies Acute Care/Adult Nurse Practitioner program prepares the graduate for dual certification as both an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and an Adult Nurse Practitioner in accordance with the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) requirements. Graduates of the program are prepared for a wide range of employment opportunities in both the Acute Care Inpatient setting (ICU, CCU, Emergency Department) or the Outpatient Primary Care/ Long Term Care settings. Students are exposed to the management of young adult, adult and elderly patients across the wellness-to-illness health care continuum. Clinical learning experiences include a variety of broad based patient care settings, with the student encouraged to focus on an area or population of specialty during the last semester integration course ( for example: cardiology, trauma, transplant, palliative care or oncology). The program utilizes a variety of educational methodologies including case presentation, grand rounds, seminar and simulation to provide a personalized educational experience. The Adult / Acute Care Nurse practitioner students integrate with the University of Miami Undergraduate students in the clinical, classroom and simulation settings serving as mentors and professional colleagues.
The program consists of 44 total credits and may be completed in 4 semester (fulltime) or 7 semesters (part time).
Graduates of the program are employed locally and nationally in the areas of Transplant, Cardiovascular Surgery, Robotic Surgery, Emergency Departments, Acute Cardiology, Surgical Intensive Care, Palliative Care and Rapid Response teams.
