The mission of El Centro is to address health conditions (HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, family and intimate partner violence, substance abuse, and related mental health issues), and health care delivery barriers that disproportionately impact minority communities. Our minority communities include individuals of Hispanic and African descent, sexual minorities and people from the Caribbean and Latin America. El Centro’s work focuses on learning about health disparities, developing and testing interventions, training the next generation of health care providers and researchers, and partnering with the community to ensure that available knowledge reaches the front line of practice. El Centro seeks to be the bridge between community needs and the scientific community worldwide.
“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane”.
- Martin Luther King.
