According to the American Heart Association, 70 percent of Americans don’t know how to help someone experiencing a cardiac emergency because they don’t know how to administer CPR or they have forgotten what they learned in training long ago.
To ensure that UM’s students and employees are ready to respond in an emergency, the Herbert Wellness Center operates as a satellite center of the University of Miami’s Center for Research in Medical Education and offers certifications in CPR and AED use in addition to other life-saving strategies.
“CPR is a potentially life-saving skill that is extremely easy to learn and can benefit everyone,” says Ashley Falcon, assistant director of wellness programs and a Heartsaver® course instructor. “Thanks to the training we provide, our students and staff across campus have been capable of handling a variety of emergency situations.”
The cost for the class and certification is: $35 for students with a membership to the Herbert Wellness Center, $40 for non-student members and $45 for non-members. To register for the class or for more information, please call the Herbert Wellness Center Sales Office at 305-284-5433 or register online.
