High school students interested in becoming a Program Aide should complete a Program Aide application and submit it to the Mini Canes Recreational Sports Camp staff prior to the listed application deadline. Before completing the application, students should be certain that they are able to attend the entire volunteer time period s/he is requesting. Camp staff will do their best to fulfill applicant preferences for placement, so it is important that applicants list both their availability and preference, as well as which time period they are unable to attend.
Aside from the application form, Program Aide applications should also include: two reference forms from either a teacher, coach, or other adult unrelated to the applicant (new applicants only); a parent consent form; a recent photo of the applicant; proof of age; and a non-refundable $100 application fee.
Returning Program Aides do not need to resubmit reference forms or proof of age.
NOTE: PROGRAM AIDES MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL DAYS OF THE SESSIONS IN WHICH THEY ARE ASSIGNED. IF A VOLUNTEER IS UNABLE TO FULFILL THIS REQUIREMENT, THEY WILL BE REPLACED BY A WAIT-LISTED VOLUNTEER WHO CAN FULFILL THE TIME COMMITMENT. APPLICANTS WHO HAVE OTHER OBLIGATIONS AND WILL BE ABSENT, TARDY, OR HAVE TO LEAVE EARLY ON ANY DAYS OF A SESSION, SHOULD NOT APPLY.
Applicants should fill out their application themselves, with the exception of the reference forms and parental consent form. References should be provided by non-family members, such as a school teacher or coach. Application materials should be submitted to the Wellness Enrichment Suite by the application deadline. Only complete applications will be considered. Please DO NOT fax application materials - they will not be counted among other application materials.
Applicants accepted into the program will be notified within one week of the application deadline via a telephone call and mailed acceptance letter. Given that Mini Canes Recreational Sports Camp receives many applications each year, all applicants cannot be guaranteed a volunteer position. Returning Program Aides will be given priority over new applicants provided that they received a satisfactory counselor evaluation from the previous summer.
