Rhonda DuBord, Associate Director, Wellness and Recreation Prior to coming to UM, Rhonda was the Director of Intramurals and Recreation at Western Illinois University for six years. She received her master's degree at Michigan State and her bachelor's degree from the University of Florida. Rhonda is a native Floridian, born and raised in Jacksonville. She has been a Girl Scout leader for twelve years. She has two daughters who are currently attending college and are actively involved in sports.
Tom Soria, Assistant Director, Intramurals, Special Events, and Camps Tom was previously at Texas A&M Corpus Christi an Assistant Director of Intramurals for 4 1/2 years. He received his masters and bachelors degree from Wichita State University. He also worked as an Intern at the University of Nebraska. Tom loves the outdoors, especially the beach as he enjoys any type of water sport. He also officiates high school football and basketball in his spare time. He is currently working towards a certificate in international business.
Ashley Falcon, Assistant Director, Wellness and Program Aides Ashley joined the DWR staff in September 2005. She earned her B.S. in Psychology from Duke University, and a master’s degree in public health with an emphasis on health education from the University of South Florida. Ashley is a certified Basic Life Support instructor, and trains all camp staff in CPR and AED use. She is currently working on a Ph.D. in epidemiology. Her hobbies include playing chess, basketball, cooking, and reading.
Melanie Palma, Director of Operations for Camp Administration Melanie is a graduate of the University of Miami with degrees in elementary education and geography. She is a former Wellness Center facility supervisor. She is currently teaching third grade in the Miami-Dade school system. Melanie is a Miami native and enjoys dancing, photography, and scrap-booking. She has been involved in sports activities all her life, including being a youth soccer coach and a cheerleader. She anticipates a long and successful teaching career and has future plans to complete her Master's Degree in education.
Mark “Bird” Dusek, Director of Operations for Sports Programs Mark is presently the athletic director and physical education teacher at R.A.S.G. Hebrew Academy in Miami Beach. He has been involved in recreation and summer camps for the past 23 years. He has coached and participated in all levels of athletic competition. He is a state of Florida Certified Teacher and has been as basketball official for 27 years. Mark is also certified in CPR/First Aid. He is a father of three children. This is his eighth year with the camp. He is a 1978 graduate of UM and commonly referred to as “The Bird.”
Pat Greene, Arts and Crafts Instructor Mrs. Greene has been a teacher for more than 36 years. She was active in Boys and Girls Club of Miami as a program director for their summer camp. Her sports involvement has been organizing and scheduling softball and intramural basketball in the Boys and Girls club. Pat holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree in education and is currently employed by Holy Rosary Catholic School as an Aide to the Kindergarten classes. She is HRS certified in childcare Training and is married with three grown sons and two grandsons.
Marena Gavilan, Administrative Assistant Marena assists with Club Sports, Intramurals, Special Events and, most importantly, the Mini Canes Recreational Sports Camp. She coordinates camp registration, and assists with camp inquiries.
