Boxing Team and Club

Club Description:

University of Miami Boxing Team and Boxing Club is comprised of male and female undergraduate and graduate students. We are designed to improve the quality of life for students who share an interest/curiosity in the sport and fitness aspects of boxing. Students interested in competing against other NCBA (National Collegiate Boxing Association) and FCBC (Florida Collegiate Boxing Conference) teams will have the opportunity to fight for the Miami Hurricanes Boxing Team. Coaches and Trainers will help prepare those who wish to compete and ultimately they will determine who is allowed to compete. However, roughly 90% of the club will be involved for fun and fitness purposes only. Individuals are not expected to compete by any means and there is no pressure to do so upon joining. Our goal is to have every student interested in getting in the best shape of their life involved in our club.

USA Boxing oversees our Olympic Team and runs all Professional Boxing and Amateur Boxing here in the states. They also run the NCBA (All of Collegiate Boxing). USA Boxing has essentially declared a state of emergency for the sport of Boxing in its entirety due to the exponential growth in popularity of Mixed Martial Arts and the UFC. USA Boxing feels the only chance of survival for the sport as a whole is to bring back its popularity through the creation of college clubs and teams. The Hurricanes are the first team established as a result of this movement.

A lot of people don’t know this but University of Miami had two National Championships in Boxing before Football ever had one. We’re bringing the program and all of college boxing back. There’s a new kind of “swagger” here at the U…get involved and become a part of UM sports history.
