A leader in campus recreation and wellness, Scott joined the Department of Wellness and Recreation in 2014. Before coming to UM, Scott served as the Director of Recreation Services at Georgia State for 14 years. In this position, Scott opened Georgia State's $33 million Student Recreation Center. In 2013, Scott received the prestigious George M. Sparks Award, an annual award that recognizes one student, faculty, and staff member from Georgia State University who exemplifies a willingness to go the extra mile with good humor and perseverance. Prior to his appointment at Georgia State, Scott worked at Bowling Green State University for 15 years in a variety of campus recreation positions. He received a master’s degree in administration of recreation services and a bachelor’s degree in K-12 education and physical education from Southern Illinois University.

Carmen supports the executive director and serves as liaison for the department's human resources, University Advancement and the Division of Student Affairs. She is responsible for the Love Bricks, Donations, Casual Workers, Monthly Graduate SEAF and Overload Pay and monthly BI Reports for Student Affairs. She has been employed by the University of Miami since 1996 and has worked for the department since 2007.

Felipe oversees all matters related to information technology, telecom and other needs, including the membership database and affinity programs. His responsibilities include both the Herbert Wellness Center and the UHealth Fitness and Wellness Center. He graduated from the University of Miami in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering.

Tom coordinates the intramural program and manages the staff of the Mini Canes Recreational Sports Camp. He is a member of The National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and is a Registered Collegiate Recreational Sports Professional (RCRSP.) Tom has officiated college baseball, high school football, and basketball in various states such as Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, and Florida. Tom received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Wichita State University.

Connie oversees more than 45 club sports programs and coordinates the department’s late-night programming throughout the year. During the summer, Connie also coordinates many of the programs and activities for the Mini Canes Recreational Sports camp. She is a member of the UM Sports Hall of Fame, Iron Arrow, and Tau Beta Sigma Fraternity. Connie earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and her master's degree from St. Thomas University.

An exercise physiologist by trade, Tony directs all of the fitness/exercise programs and operations at both the Herbert Wellness Center and the UHealth Fitness and Wellness Center. He is an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certified Clinical Exercise Specialist and serves on the ACSM Certification and Credentialing Review Board. Tony is also the Sports Nutrition Specialist for the Miami Hurricanes Athletic teams. Tony received his bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from West Virginia University and his master’s degree in clinical exercise physiology from the University of Florida. He has a Ph.D. in exercise physiology from the University of Miami.

Nikki is a certified health fitness specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine, a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is a certified SPINNING instructor. She earned her bachelor’s degrees in exercise science from Florida State University and her master’s degree in exercise science and strength and conditioning from Florida Atlantic University.

Al maintains the look and function of the Herbert Wellness Center including safety improvements, daily maintenance and exercise equipment upgrades. Al has successfully completed APPA’s Institute for Facilities Management program, is a certified aquatic facility operator, and has completed both the FEMA and NIMS certifications in emergency and incident management. Al has worked for the University of Miami since 1989 and is a member of Iron Arrow.

David oversees a student staff that includes facility supervisors, front desk and pro shop attendants, lifeguards and operations staff. He also coordinates all facility rentals at the Herbert Wellness Center. Furones is also a freelance sports reporter, frequently writing for the Miami Herald, CaneSport.com, The Sports Xchange and MLB.com. He graduated from the University of Miami in 2012 with bachelor’s degrees in journalism and sport administration. He worked with the Herbert Wellness Center as a student employee in a variety of roles.
