Guidelines are used to shape what organizations can request from SAFAC. They are the daily expenditures that SAFAC will fund, listed by dollar amount and are created each fiscal year. SAFAC typically votes to fund expenditures either at quote or at guideline. Guidelines are changed once a year in the spring before Regular Budget Requests are worked on. SAFAC hosts a guidelines discussion meeting that is open to all student organization treasurers and leaders to hear ideas on guideline changes.

Precedents list what organizations have been allotted by SAFAC during each SAFAC meeting, by SAFAC voting. For example, if SAFAC votes to send organizations to conference per guidelines on one budget, that vote is used for every organization who requests conference funding. The precedents guide SAFAC decisions to assist SAFAC in being unbiased in their decision making.
