Registration:
What does my registration fee cover?
The registration fee includes a Family Weekend t-shirt, a meal pass to use for lunch with your student on Friday, information sessions, school/college meetings, campus events, other giveaways, and the ability to purchase football packages and optional excursions.
Do I have to pay a registration fee for my student to attend Family Weekend?
There is no registration fee for current UM students. The only fee you would need to pay for your student is if you choose to participate in one of the optional tours and would like your student to go on the tour with you. A ticket for your student to attend the President’s Tailgate for Families at Sun Life Stadium is included in the purchase of any of the football packages.
What time do events on Friday, September 28 begin?
Family Weekend events will start at 9:00am. Family Weekend Check-In times will be Thursday, September 27 from 5:00pm-8:00pm or Friday, September 28 from 9:00am-5:00pm. For those participants wanting to attend events at 9:00am on Friday, we suggest you check in during the Thursday night check-in times.
What time do events on Sunday, September 30 end?
There are no scheduled events on Sunday, September 25 so you may spend free time with your student. A list of religious services and optional campus activities will be provided at check-in but are not mandatory. However, for flight purposes, we would suggest looking at late afternoon/early evening flights.
Do I need to register my entire family for Family Weekend?
Any member of your family that wishes to attend any of the Family Weekend events must individually pay the registration fee. For the football packages, Sun Life Stadium ticket policy requires everyone over the age of two to have a valid ticket for the football game. Therefore, all participants wanting to attend the UM football game must purchase an individual football package. During the registration process you will be asked to enter information about your UM student, however there is no registration fee required.
What if I cannot make it to campus by 5:00pm on Friday, September 28?
If you have purchased a football package and have not checked in by 5:00pm on Friday, your tailgate and football tickets will be brought to Sun Life Stadium. You may pick up your tailgate tickets at the tailgate check-in at the Gate C Courtyard area. Football tickets can be picked up at Will Call at Sun Life Stadium. Please note that your UM student can pick-up your materials and check you in for Family Weekend during the posted check-in times with their valid CaneID.
If you have purchased tickets for either Optional Tour at 9:00am on Saturday morning and have not checked in by 5:00pm on Friday, you may pick up your tickets at Stanford Circle (located on the UM campus) between 8:30am and 9:00am.
UM vs. NC State Football Game:
What date and time is the football game?
The UM vs. NC State football game is scheduled for Saturday, September 29, 2012. Football game start times are determined based on the TV networks’ schedule. We will not have confirmation on the kickoff time of the football game until 10 days before the game. Once the kickoff time is confirmed it will be posted on our website.
What are the differences between the three football packages?
The White Package is for participants who already have football tickets or plan to get them on their own but would like to attend the President’s Tailgate for Families before the game; there are no football tickets included in this package. The Orange Package includes an upper level football ticket (400 level) and the Green Package includes a lower level football ticket (100 level).
Do I need to purchase a football ticket for my UM student?
No, UM students are admitted free to all home football games with a valid ‘Cane ID Card.
Can I sit with my student at the game?
Due to UM and Sun Life Stadium ticketing policies, it is not possible for you to sit with your student in the student section at Sun Life Stadium. However, Family Weekend tickets are located adjacent to the student section.
Tailgate with President Shalala:
What time does the tailgate begin?
The tailgate will begin 2 hours prior to the start of the football game. The kickoff time of the football game will be available 10 days before the game and will posted on the Family Weekend website.
Can my student attend the tailgate?
Yes, students can attend the tailgate if you have purchased a football package. A student tailgate ticket is included with the purchase of any football package.
Where is the tailgate going to be held?
The tailgate will be held at Sun Life Stadium in the Gate C Courtyard area. More detailed information on the location of the tailgate will be available at Family Weekend Check-In.
What is the menu for the tailgate?
The tailgate will be catered by Savior Miami and the menu will be available by July 2, 2012.
What if I already have tickets to the football game? Can I still attend the tailgate?
If you would like to register for Family Weekend and already have your own football tickets, you can purchase the White Package (tailgate tickets only).
Parking/Transportation:
How can I get to Sun Life Stadium for the football game?
Family Weekend participants have the option of choosing to drive and park at Sun Life Stadium The cost for stadium parking and bus transportation will be available by July 2, 2012 and can be purchased during the registration process in conjunction with a football package.
Where can I park on-campus?
Included in the registration fee is a parking pass that is valid for the entire weekend. You will receive the parking pass via e-mail one week prior to Family Weekend. You will need to print out your parking pass and display it in the front windshield of your vehicle throughout the weekend. If you forget your pass, we will have them available at check-in.
During Family Weekend, there will be ample parking available in non-restricted lots around campus. Please note that the parking permits are not valid in lots 303, 304B, parking meters, reserved spaces, or service spaces.
