New Student and Parent Orientation Check-in
University Center, International Lounge, 2nd Floor
Orientation check-in is held over two days (8/15 and 8/16). All new first-year and transfer students must check-in for the orientation program. You will be given your orientation materials, group assignment and meeting location. Parents that are participating in the Parent Orientation may also check-in at this time. First-year commuter students are encouraged to check-in on Thursday, August 16th.
Please note that varsity athletes, as well as international and exchange students, will be checked in for the new student orientation program during their pre-orientation program and do not need to check-in during this time. |

Transfer Student Orientation Sessions
Meet the student leaders that will be your guide during these first days, and other new students in your community. Information about campus services and programs most relevant to transfer students will be provided. Transfer students will also have their Academic Dean’s Meetings on Thursday, August 16 (see entry below). We also encourage transfer students to attend the President’s Picnic (Sunday) and Canefest (Tuesday). |

President Shalala officially welcomes you to the University of Miami! Students and parents are invited to learn what it means to be a ‘Cane: vibrant spirit & tradition, achievement in academics, interaction with outstanding faculty, excellence in research, and involvement outside the classroom. This high energy event will also feature the UM cheerleaders, the Band of the Hour, and Sebastian the Ibis. Food concession stands will be open. |

New Student Convocation serves as the first academic event for new students. It annually features a prominent national/international leader who has made significant educational contributions towards addressing and improving societal and world issues.
(Doors open at 8:45am. First-year students will enter with their orientation groups, transfer and exchange students meet at the Fieldhouse Multipurpose Room. Parents will be seated separately) |
