GENERAL INFORMATION:
Desk Assistants (DAs) are part-time student employees who are responsible for the organization and management of reception desk operations. If you are interested in assisting fellow students, consider applying for a Desk Assistant position with the Department of Housing and Residential Life. Hours of operation at the reception desks are extensive: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days a week. In the central housing office, work hours range between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Your work assignment is flexible enough to accommodate your academic schedule. Students typically work between 10 to 15 hours per week. Starting salary for a Desk Assistant is $7.70 per hour (as of February 2012).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Desk Assistants must have a high degree of integrity and display continuous commitment toward customer service and the Desk Assistant position. The ability to interact with a variety of student, faculty, and staff personalities requires patience, use of initiative, and an ability to think quickly. The following is a framework for responsibilities of the Desk Assistant:
All Desk Assistants are supervised by the area Administrative Assistant and Residence Coordinator.
EARLY ARRIVAL TRAINING:
Students who are selected for a Desk Assistant position are required to arrive on campus approximately two weeks prior to regular student check-in. Students may arrive to move into their residential colleges from 9:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Training will occur between the early arrival date and the opening of the residential colleges and apartment area. All meals will be provided during the training and early arrival period.
