V. Chunoo

Hi everyone – My name is V. Chunoo and I am the Academic and Career Advisor (ACAR) for Hecht Residential College. I’m starting my second year here in Hecht, but my 7th year as an ACAR. I have a Master of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology, both from UM, so I really am the college student that just never left! My job as ACAR, I like to say, is to turn freshmen into sophomores; for some people that means picking or changing classes, for others it means picking or changing majors (or minors), writing that first college resume or brushing up on interview skills. I also help students apply for jobs, internships or volunteer opportunities and getting involved with things like research or prestigious awards and fellowships (like the Rhodes, Fulbright, etc.). However, I couldn’t do all of this alone. I have a staff of 12 Academic Fellows (AFs) scattered throughout Pentland and McDonald that help me advise students, share information about university events and present programs in the building and beyond. I also serve as the University’s Academic Ombudsperson, which means I can help students navigate conflicts with University Faculty, Academic Departments, and academic policies and procedures.

My office is located on the first floor of Hecht Residential College in room 113 (right by the laundry rooms). Feel free to stop by if you have any questions or concerns, or are looking for a free cup of coffee and chess match!
