Dear New UM Student:

Congratulations, and welcome to the University of Miami! Each summer, the Department of Orientation & Commuter Student Involvement invites incoming first-year commuter students to participate in the Great Start program.

Great Start is an overnight pre-orientation program designed to promote and emphasize college adjustment and campus involvement opportunities. The program's goal is to help you feel like a part of the University and give you a chance to meet other commuter students. Students who participated in Great Start have said the program greatly contributed to a positive transition from high school to college.

This Summer 2014, we will be offering two programs: July 12-13, and July 26-27. This website will provide an overview of our activities and it will provide you information on how to register for one of the weekends. The cost of attending Great Start 2014 will depend on the date of registration:

April 23 – June 13: $85
June 14 – July 21: $95

The registration fee includes weekend housing, all meals during the program, a t-shirt, and other spirit items. Our online registration will accept credit card payments only. Online registration will be available beginning Wednesday, April 23.  You are encouraged to sign up sooner than later, as these sessions fill up quickly! Admitted students in Miami-Dade and Broward counties will receive a mailing about the program in early spring.

The deadline to register for each session is as follows; registration will close at 5pm on the following days:

Session I (July 12-13): Monday, July 7
Session II (July 27-28): Monday, July 21
