Campus Planning and Development manages master planning for all campuses. Including the main campus in Coral Gables, the Miller School of Medicine in the City of Miami, and the Rosenstiel School Marine and Atmospheric Sciences located in Miami-Dade County.

The master plans support the University’s academic strategic plan and capital plans by providing a blueprint for implementation. The planning process identifies existing and preferred land uses, proposed building sites, landscape, mobility/ vehicular/ pedestrian systems, lighting, open space, historic preservation, compatibility with surrounding neighborhoods, design guidelines standards, and plans for sustainable development.

On the Coral Gables campus, the department is responsible for maintaining design guidelines for all buildings and grounds to promote cohesive development and design.

The Planning Department is also responsible for maintaining information about the history of campus development including information about the architectural and historic significance of its buildings.
