Under the direction of the Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities, the following departments work to provide integrated operational and consulting services to a host of University constituents. These departments include:

These departments total approximately 800 University employees and contract service employees.

All major planning, construction, and real estate transactions are governed by Finance and the Executive Committee of the University of Miami Board of Trustees. Our division is responsible for all major construction on all campuses.

Real Estate, under the direction of .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) is responsible for transactional real estate activities for all University campus and off-campus pursuits, leases, designated surplus disposition, gifted property and management of real and personal property. The department also manages and administers all UM leases.

Campus Planning and Development, under the direction of .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), is responsible for maintaining and updating all campus master plans and related properties. The department establishes functional and aesthetic guidelines for the campus community including: academic, residential, research, administrative, social, athletic, cultural, entertainment and leisure activities; open spaces; landscaping; signage and lighting; parking; vehicular access and circulation; pedestrian amenities; utilities; and auxiliary University functions. The department manages all University planning and zoning applications.

Facilities Design and Construction, under the direction of .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), manages design, renovations and new construction. The department provides design and construction services to meet the institutional and academic needs of the University and works with University clients to develop program, design, and construction documents and permitting for all construction projects.

Facilities Management, under the direction of .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), has overall responsibility for the operation and maintenance of University facilities on the Coral Gables campus. The department is responsible for building maintenance, access control, energy management, campus infrastructure, fire and security systems, utilities distribution, grounds, and custodial services.

Parking and Transportation, under .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), is responsible for parking inventory and transportation services to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the University. The department also supports other programs on the Coral Gables campus, such as: special events, traffic control, valet parking, Motorist Assistance Program (MAP) and our UBike Program. Parking and Transportation manages: Zipcar and American Coach contract services.

Office of Emergency Management, under .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), is responsible for emergency preparedness, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning University wide. The office is also responsible for the University’s Emergency Notification Network (ENN) in coordination with the University of Miami Police Department (UMPD) and the Miller School of Medicine Public Safety Emergency Operations Department.

UMPD, under .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), is responsible for providing a safe and secure campus environment through collaborative and professional law enforcement. UMPD is a professional law enforcement agency manned with State of Florida Certified Police officers and empowered through the City of Coral Gables. UMPD is responsible for patrolling the Coral Gables campus, and responding to emergencies and non-emergency calls. UMPD follows a community policing model of law enforcement.

Financial Management Services, under the direction of the Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities, Financial Management Services, manages the financial reporting. This unit provides a wide range of budgetary and analytical services for all of the aforementioned departments and works closely with University of Miami leadership as stewards of our financial resources.
