Microsoft engineers are continuing their investigation where some users served from the Americas may be experiencing Outlook disconnects. The issue seems to be caused by a load balancing problem. At this time engineers are rebalancing load to mitigate impact. As a workaround, users can connect to Exchange Online through Outlook Web App (OWA).

Microsoft has acknowledged the issue: Microsoft engineers have identified an issue where some users served from the Americas may be experiencing Outlook disconnects. Engineers are currently investigating the issue. If you are experiencing issues at this time, please use the Outlook Web App (OWA): http://email.miami.edu.
At this time mobile devices seem to be unaffected.
