PURPOSE
To describe coin operated telephone services on University campuses.

DEFINITIONS:
Coin Operated Telephone: A stand alone telephone operable by using either coins or credit cards as payment for placing local and/or long distance calls.

ALL COIN OPERATED TELEPHONES ON UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES MAY BE USED TO DIAL
911 IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY WITHOUT USING COINS OR CREDIT CARDS.

POLICY
The University subcontracts operation of all campus coin operated telephones.  Destroying, abusing, or in any way tampering with the equipment is a criminal offense and will be investigated by the Public Safety Department.

PROCEDURE
To Request A Coin Operated Telephone At Any UM Location:

    1.  Send an Interdepartmental Requisition (IDR) to the

        Telecommunications Department requesting a coin

        operated telephone.

    2.  The potential call traffic for that location will be researched and

        if deemed sufficient, a coin operated telephone will be installed.
