To describe the basic voice (telephone) services available at the University of Miami.
Basic telephone service consists of a telephone line (number) and one single-line analog or multi-line digital touchtone telephone desk set.
Departments may request additional lines and/or multi-line sets to satisfy call volume and personnel requirements.
Telephone line(s) at the Medical, Coral Gables, and RSMAS campuses as well as some off-premise sites are served by University-owned systems. South Campus and other off-campus locations are served by local telecommunications carriers.
Departmental representatives requesting telephone service/equipment should submit an Interdepartmental Requisition (IDR) to the Telecommunications Department.
On the IDR, the following information must be included:
1. Name and location of the person(s) to contact (campus address, building, floor and room number);
2. Department name, and location (if different from the contact person’s location);
3. Services required, and;
4. University account(s) to be charged (for installation and recurring monthly costs).
Upon receipt of the IDR, the Telecommunications Department will assign a Telecommunications Service Request (TSR) number to the request. A memorandum will be sent to verify receipt of the IR and provide the TSR number.
Standard time intervals for accomplishing TSRs are identified in Policy F053, Requests for Service/Equipment.
INSTALLERS CANNOT MAKE CHANGES TO THE TSR WITHOUT THE SPECIFIC APPROVAL OF THE ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND COMPUTER OPERATIONS OR HIS/HER DESIGNEE.
