April 08, 2013 — University of Miami — Student Government (SG) Senate passed a bill Wednesday that replaces the current Student Government Advisory Boards with the Campus Liaison Council (CLC).
Chaired by the SG Chief of Staff Mike Piacentino, the CLC fosters communication and productive relationships between Student Government and different areas of campus. Two student liaisons will represent seven different areas of campus.
Campus Liaison Council
Auxiliary Services (2)
Campus Facilities and Security (2)
Dining Services (2)
Health and Wellness (2)
Information Technology (2)
University Libraries (2)
Parking and Transportation (2)
This change will help make SG more effective and efficient. By having a centralized Council through which all communication between areas of campus and SG flows, SG can ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals.
Students will benefit from this change as it will allow Student Government to more effectively work with areas of campus to create initiatives and share the concerns of students. Similarly, those departments will receive stronger student input on their plans and improvements.
“The CLC is an important next step that will help students create tangible changes by ensuring that their voices and ideas are heard by departments across campus” said President Bhumi Patel.
CLC applications are available Monday, April 8 via http://www.miami.edu/sg. They are due to the SG Office in UC 240 by 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 19.
