Student Government is involved in many different campus-wide initiatives that are designed to benefit all of the University of Miami Student Body. Check back often to see details about new initiatives and those that are already in progress.
COMPLETED: The program has been approved by university administration and Student Government is currently accepting applications for classes to be taught in Fall 2012.
COMPLETED: As a pilot launch, the Hecht-Stanford Dining Hall will be open from 11PM-2AM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This gives students a way to eat right on campus during later hours of the weekends.
COMPLETED: Developed for iPhone, Blackberry and Android.
COMPLETED: Through Student Government, brings administrators into dialogue with students on a variety of campus issues. Will be taking place throughout the entire year.
COMPLETED: Hurricane Productions and Student Government launched a survey that received over 3,000 student responses for who they would like to see perform at the 2011 Homecoming Concert.
COMPLETED: In order to provide a healthier air quality for areas where smoke tends to gather (near doorways and corridors), designated smoking areas have been placed at numerous locations all around campus.
IN PROGRESS: Along with the university, the University Center is being totally remodeled and will bring a much more spirited feel to the lower lounge as well as the second floor Stanford International Lounge. This feel is being translated across all common areas on campus and will be mirrored by the design and style of the new Student Activities Center.
IN PROGRESS: A plan is currently under development that will allow students to take a meal in a To-Go container out of the Dining Halls.
IN PROGRESS: Working with Dining Services to bring a dessert option onto campus.
IN PROGRESS: Design and funding is currently in progress.
IN PROGRESS: Working out logistics of bringing a bike rental service onto campus.
IN PROGRESS: Working on a proposal that will allow students to come up with their own combination of classes to customize their academics.
COMPLETED: Textbook Rentals are now available at the UM Bookstore through a program called Rent-A-Text. Students can now save hundreds of dollars by simply renting their textbooks and returning them at the end of the semester. No worries about buy-back. You can even choose to buy the book at the end of the rental period if you’d like!
COMPLETED: Two ICEE machines are now available in the C-Store!
COMPLETED: THe Fresh Farmer’s Market is every Wednesday, from 9am until 2pm, between the Post Office and Starbucks. Local vendors bring their fresh products every week for students to buy!
COMPLETED: One successful event already (Marlins Game with Pitbull & Fat Joe), with another in the planning stages
COMPLETED: The C-Store was open 24 hours during Spring 2010 finals, and it will be open again for 24 hours during the Fall 2010 finals period
COMPLETED: There will be a credit card machine available at the School of Communication Kiosk for students to use to purchase food items
COMPLETED: Lunches with the President (Christina Farmer) are offered and can be set-up via appointment to discuss your ideas and suggestions for change on campus

COMPLETED: All dining halls will have all nutritional facts of items on menu available to students, making a healthier U possible!
COMPLETED: The ACE Degree Audit Report on myUM is now improved and available to students

IN PROGRESS: In discussion with the Toppel Career Center, doing benchmarking of other schools’ programs, and looking into staffing for additional advising in Pre-Professional Tracks
IN PROGRESS: Working to increase recycling and green initiatives on campus and will be trying to implement these ideas shortly
