As vice president for budget and planning, Mark Diaz is responsible for the strategic development of the University’s budget and capital plans as well as the organizational development and functional oversight of the business operations within the academic units and centers. He serves as a key advisor in the Office of the Provost, leading the implementation of initiatives and supporting long-range planning and resource allocation consistent with established priorities and effective fiscal and operational management. Diaz also collaborates with Finance and Treasury on the five-year strategic operating and capital plans.
Diaz joined the University in 1999, spending six years as executive director of medical finance operations and budget at UM’s Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. He became vice president for budget and planning in 2005 and was named vice president for budget and finance in April 2012. Before joining the University, he handled audit and consulting work as a manager for the national public accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP.
Diaz graduated from the University of Miami cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He also holds a master’s degree in professional accounting from UM.
