We help connect UM undergraduate students from all disciplines to UM faculty research mentors. Most research positions are not paid. BEFORE APPLYING, 1) Read the Frequently Asked Questions and the Research Guide for Students. 2) Visit the Research Postings, the Undergraduate Research Mentors (A-H) and Undergraduate Research Mentors (I-Z) pages for partial listings of some of our mentors and their projects, and 3) Review UM’s Mentor Profile Database.

Application Steps: Although all updated browsers are supported, we recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your browser. If experiencing trouble downloading the online application, please check your pop-up blocker to allow pop-ups from this site. If experiencing trouble with the online application, clear the cache on your browser first before trying again.

  1. Determine your availability: minimum of 6 hours per week in at least two hour blocks. Research week is considered Monday-Friday, 9 to 5pm, no weekends. 
  2. Be ready to upload a current resume (Click Here for Resume Sample) and a copy of your unofficial transcripts from CaneLink.
  3. APPLY ONLINE! If there is a particular research mentor that you are interested in working with, indicate this in the “Areas of Interest” section of the application. WARNING: ALL OF THE APPLICATION STEPS HAVE TO BE COMPLETED AND THE APPLICATION SUBMITTED FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE SAVED AND PROCESSED.  IF YOU EXIT OUT, ALL INFORMATION WILL BE LOST.
