Dissertation Fellowships
Applicants must be graduate students and civilian citizens of the United States preparing dissertations in the history of warfare. There are three fellowships available: one for dissertations exploring the material culture of the Army, two for more general areas of military history. Requirements include: offial transcripts, proposed plan of research, letter of recommendation from an academic director that includes a statement approving the dissertation topic, two other letters of recommendation, and a writing sample of approxiamately 25 pages (entire piece, not fragment). Individuals who have held or accepted equivalent fellowships from any Department of Defence agency are not eligible. Individuals who accept a Center of Military History fellowship may not accept a fellowship from another institution for a persiod concurrent with the Center's fellowship. Apllicants must have completed by Septmeber all requirements for a Ph.D. except for the dissertation.

Major General James Ursano Scholarship Fund
Scholarships are available for dependent children, stepchildren, or legally adopted children of Army soldiers (active, retired, or deceased). Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, be a full time student, be unmarried the entire academic year, and under the age of 22 on May 1, 2005 to receive awards for the 2005-2006 academic year. Award decisions are based primarily according to financial need, secondarily on academic acheivements and individual accomplishments. Continuing students must apply each year. Applications are available online.

Military Officers Association of America Scholarship

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Be a descendant or ward of an active duty or retired member of the Uniformed Services of the (includes Regular, National Guard or Reserve enlisted and officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, NOAA or USPHS) OR be a descendant or ward of a deceased member of the Uniformed Services of the U.S., who died while on active duty or in retired status, OR be a descendant or ward of a current member (or was if deceased) of the Cape Canaveral Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.

  • Be a legal resident of Brevard County, Florida, OR a descendant or ward of a current member (or was if deceased) of the Cape Canaveral Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.

  • Be a Junior or Senior in college or entering graduate studies.

  • Be accepted by an accredited college or university as a full time (minimum 12 credit hours) student in a program leading to a baccalaureate or graduate degree.

    Scholarship for Children of Deceased and Disabled Veterans
    Applicant must be between the ages of 16-22 and a dependent child of a qualified veteran or serviceman whose official military status is verified by the Florida Dept. of Veterans Affairs. Must meet the State of Florida's eligibility requirements for state aid, not have previously obtained a bachelors degree and enroll in a public or private post secondary institution. Applicants can not owe repayment of a grant under any federal grant program or be in default on any federal loan.
