INFO FOR:

Do you have a strong passion for intercultural experiences? Do you enjoy making new friends and learning about different countries? Are you looking for an opportunity to expand your global knowledge?
Becoming a Global Ambassador may be just the thing for you!

Who are Global Ambassadors?
Global Ambassadors (GAs) are UM students selected by the Office of Study Abroad to promote global learning experiences. They are recognized by the University of Miami for their contributions to campus life. GAs are leaders among their peers and enthusiastically enrich the college experience for all students through various activities. They promote study abroad, build connections and help their fellow students develop an international scope to their academic experience. Some of the outreach activities that GAs are involved in include peer advising, tabling at events throughout campus and sharing information during classroom visits. Along with the Office of Study Abroad, GAs also participate in year-round programs such as Orientation, Study Abroad fairs, Cultural Heritage Months, International Week and International Education Week.

Additionally, GAs serve as UM buddies and work one-on-one with international/exchange students to help them acclimate to life at UM and in the U.S. Some activities that GAs engage in with international/exchange students include: showing students how to get around Miami, how to navigate the campus and where they can shop for groceries, books or dorm supplies. Making them feel at home at UM could mean introducing them to potential friends, inviting them to a sporting event or the movies and sharing tips on student hotspots. Since International students are sometimes overwhelmed with the amount of information they receive as they enter the U.S. and enroll in school;  GAs make their transition easier by sharing information on resources and tips on studying, courses and university life.

Being a GA offers a unique opportunity to forge life-long friendships and gain diverse perspectives of the world from another culture.

As a Global Ambassador, you will gain:

  • Leadership & Public-Speaking Skills
  • A Certificate for Student Leadership at UM
  • Cross-Cultural Knowledge
  • Public Relations Experience
  • Gifts at the End of the Academic Year
  • An End of the Academic Year Luncheon

Each semester, one GA is selected to be the Team Coordinator. All GAs are expected to participate in regular meetings to plan and discuss activities. The Team Coordinator organizes these meetings. Typically, meetings are held 4 to 5 times each semester. In addition, all GAs are expected to attend a Welcome Event, as well as, an end of the year luncheon with the Office of Study Abroad staff.
