The Study Abroad Stipend
Students who participate in a University of Miami study abroad program may apply for a stipend to help defray costs associated with studying abroad.
The Lawrence R. Hyer/Edward Pascoe Study Abroad Scholarship
This scholarship is intended for students who will study abroad for a semester or a year on a UM program. The donor requests that preference be given to gay or lesbian self-identified students.
Belton G. & Margaret T. Aldridge Scholarship in Tropical Biology
The Belton G. & Margaret T. Aldridge scholarship is intended for meritorious undergraduate students pursuing studies in tropical or subtropical biology who have demonstrated financial need. The Aldridge Scholarship can be used for students to participate in study abroad programs in the tropics run by the Department of Biology. The scholarship will be awarded based upon the Department of Biology review of competing applications.

Plus One Scholarship
The Plus One Scholarship is a program of educational enrichment that offers University of Miami undergraduates a tuition-free year or semester beyond the normal number of years required to complete an undergraduate degree. The program’s single purpose is to give you the opportunity to broaden and expand your learning and study subjects your degree requirements and other academic commitments may preclude.
The Plus One Scholarship is solely for enrichment and may include study abroad.

There are several national scholarships and databases for searching for study abroad scholarships. The Study Abroad office can guide you on the application process so please contact our office for assistance when applying to these scholarships.
Fulbright Commission Summer Institute United Kingdom
Full scholarship (tuition, housing, meals, airfare) for Freshmen and Sophomores to spend the summer studying at a UK university while exploring that country’s rich cultural heritage. Preference is given to students who have never been to the UK. Minimum GPA to apply is 3.5. Deadline to apply is usually mid-February, but check the website for more details.
Benjamin A. Gilman National Scholarship Program for Study Abroad
Semester and summer awards up to $5,000 to students who are US citizens and currently receive a Federal Pell Grant.
National Security Education Program Boren Scholarships
Awards for participants studying abroad outside of Western Europe and Australia.
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant Competition
Awards up to $1,000 for undergraduate students.
The Fund for Education Abroad
Scholarships of $5,000 per semester or $10,000 for the year are available to students studying abroad. There is no limit to specific programs, destinations, or fields of study. Priority is given to underrepresented students – including but not limited to minorities and to students going to non-traditional destinations. Please note that students must apply one year in advance of the semester or year in which they plan to study abroad.
Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
The US-Japan Bridging Foundation awards scholarships to US undergraduate students to study for one semester or academic year in Japan. The Foundation aims to expand the opportunities for study abroad in Japan to help prepare America’s young people to assume future global leadership roles. Bridging Scholars are awarded scholarships of up to $5,000 for the academic year, which provide for travel and daily cost-of-living expenses.
Study Abroad Turkey Scholarship for Minority Students
The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) in cooperation with Diversity Abroad are awarding grants in the amount of $2,000, $1,000 or $500 for undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a study abroad program in Turkey or Cyprus for an academic year, semester or summer. Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate African-American, Hispanic/Latino or Native-American students who have already applied and been accepted to participate in a study abroad program at a university in Turkey or Cyprus through an American educational institution or study abroad provider.
Killam Study Abroad Scholarship for Study in Canada
Awards for $10,000 for a year or $5,000 for a semester study abroad in Canada. Award also includes travel stipend and seminars in Ottawa and Washington, DC.
Malmberg Scholarship and Fellowship Program
Award of up to $10,000 for study abroad in Sweden.
DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service
Funding opportunities for students interested in study and research in Germany.
