University of Miami Study Abroad Peer Mentors serve an important function at UM by using their unique abilities and creative energy to raise awareness of study abroad to fellow UM students. We expect Peer Mentors to complete their volunteer service by participating in some, if not all, of our activities. The main duties of Peer Mentors are to assist with general study abroad advising sessions in Allen Hall on Mondays and Thursdays, and to assist with the logistical and organizational support of Study Abroad events, including set-up and clean-up. Additionally, we encourage Peer Mentors to use their own creative ideas to take on new project initiatives in order to enhance our outreach efforts. Self-directed projects launched by former Peer Mentors include the following: enhancing of the pre-departure orientation by creating the IEEP Jeopardy game, planning and executing study abroad events in the dorms and dining halls, and creating advertisements for study abroad programs such as banners and fliers.
If you are interested in being a Peer Mentor please contact your study abroad advisor. Space is limited in this program. Applications received by August 1 for the fall semester and January 1 for the spring semester will be given priority. Remaining positions will be filled on a space available basis.
