Participant
Participants in the Administrative Support Program are expected to be fully engaged in the program?s learning activities. Each participant will complete the ASP Orientation Curriculum, take the assessment, and develop a Professional Development Plan. Participants will actively seek feedback on performance from their supervisors and peers, will share best practices, and will collaborate with each other throughout the program. Participants will document proof of their new and/or improved skills via their e-Portfolio.
Supervisor/Peer Support
Supervisory support is strongly recommended for the Administrative Support Program, but two peers can substitute for a supervisor. This support is an important resource for participants as they develop new skills and apply them in the workplace. Supervisors or peers should meet with participants regularly to provide feedback on their professional development plans and their performance as they progress through the program.
Supervisors can also create opportunities for participants to practice their skills, allow release time to attend learning activities, and provide PDTO with feedback on how new skills have been applied in the workplace to increase departmental effectiveness.
Mentor
Participants who have mastered a competency upon initial assessment can become mentors for participants who need to close the skill gap in the same competency. Mentors will partner with participants (mentees) to allow mentees to begin mastering identified skills/competencies as they are supported by peer mentoring.
A mentor can also be a mentee, since there may be areas where the mentor has a skill gap, and will then be mentored by someone that has mastered that competency. Mentors and mentees will rotate every six months.
