The committee letter, also known as the “composite letter”, is written by the Office Director, Prof. Gaines, after interviewing qualified applicants. The committee letter packet consists of a qualitative ranking (Most Highly Recommend, Highly Recommend, Recommend, Recommend with Reservations, or Do not Recommend), a two-page letter discussing the applicant’s academic performance, research, shadowing, leadership, and community service experience, and six individual letters of evaluation.
What To Do Before the Interview
Your first step is to review the committee letter procedures.
Then visit or call the Office of Pre-Health Advising and Mentoring at the beginning of the spring semester of the year you are applying to medical school to set-up a 45-minute committee letter interview with Prof. Gaines. Interviews will be held from February through May, with exact dates changing each application cycle. Make sure to schedule your committee letter interview well in advance by calling (305-284-5176) or stopping by the Pre-Health Office in Ungar 103.

What To Do After the Interview
Review the procedures for committee and cover letter packet submission to medical schools that must be followed in order for the Pre-Health Office to submit your committee letter packet. All of the items below must be in your pre-health file before we can submit your committee letter packet:
Letter of evaluation selection form if you decide, after the committee letter interview, to change which six individual letters you want included in your packet
