Create an AMCAS Account
You can begin creating your American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) account in early May. You can first submit your AMCAS application at the beginning of June. If you have submitted your AMCAS application, AMCAS will verify and distribute your application to the schools you have designated at the end of June. Dates change each year, so check their website for details.
Request and Submit Official Transcripts to AMCAS
Official transcripts from each institution where you have taken courses must be submitted to AMCAS. After you create an account in AMCAS, print one transcript matching form for each institution where you have taken a course. Request transcripts directly from the registrar’s office at every institution you have received credits from. Most schools allow you to do it online, while you may need to speak to the school’s registrar office at others. The institutions will send the transcripts directly to AMCAS. The Pre-Health Office does not process transcript requests. UM transcripts are processed by a third party company called Credentials Solutions 847-716-3005. Students have the option to request an e-pdf transcript (which is sent electronically to AMCAS) or paper copy (which is mailed via USPS). All requests must be made through Canelink. Students will be prompted each step of the way during the ordering process. Students requesting to have their transcript sent via e-pdf to AMCAS must enter their 8 digit AAMC ID # and Transcript ID/Code. Students requesting to have their transcripts sent via USPS mail, at the end of the order the system will automatically generate a pre-populated Fax Note which will need to be faxed directly to Credentials for processing.
Generate the AMCAS Letter Request Form and Submit it to the Pre-Health Office
In the [Letters of Evaluation section] of the AMCAS application you will need to generate an AMCAS Letter Request form (this form has a barcode at the top), selecting either committee letter or letter packet (which means cover letter) from the drop down menu. In the “To” field, you will enter:

How to Enter the Queue
Once we have all the forms in your file (completed AMCAS application with submission date, AMCAS letter request form, committee or cover letter request form and associated documents, and all of your letters of evaluation), you will be placed in queue for submission of your committee or cover letter packet to AMCAS. The Office will submit your cover letter or committee letter packet to the AMCAS Letter Writer Application and from there it will be automatically disseminated to the individual schools you applied to. You will be notified when you have been placed in the queue for submission and then again when your committee or cover letter packet has been submitted.
Note: In addition to the six individual letters that can be submitted with your committee or cover letter packet, you are allowed to submit up to four individual letters to AMCAS. If you choose to submit 1-4 individual letters, you must create a separate AMCAS letter request form for each evaluator, choosing the “individual letter” option from the drop down menu. Give this form to the individual evaluator, and ask him/her to submit the letter to AMCAS directly. Individual letters will not be submitted by the Office of Pre-Health Advising and Mentoring.

Note on Texas Medical Schools: If you are applying to a medical school in Texas, you must apply through the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS), not AMCAS. Click here for TMDSAS. You will need to complete the [Colleges Attended] section of the TMDSAS application. Then, in the [Letters of Evaluation] section, indicate that a packet is being submitted and enter University of Miami. You must answer “Yes” to the following question in the [Colleges Attended Questions] section: “Would you like to release your information to the health professions advisor at any school(s)?” and indicate the school which will be uploading your committee or cover letter packet. Then provide the Pre-Health Office with a copy of your submitted TMDSAS application (a pdf document emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org will suffice) and request that the Office submit your committee or cover letter packet to the TMDSAS portal. The Pre-Health Office will place you in queue and then upload your committee or cover letter packet to the TMDSAS Evaluator Portal.
