You need to begin developing a competitive portfolio for medical school as soon as you declare yourself on the pre-med track.  The formal medical school application process begins approximately a year and a half before you aspire to enter. Therefore, if you are planning on entering medical school during the academic year following completion of your undergraduate degree at UM, you will apply during the summer after your junior year. But you should begin the formal application process with the Office of Pre-Health Advising and Mentoring in spring of your junior year.
