Prospective Mentors

The goal of the pre-health peer mentor program is to help pre-health students experience UM to the fullest. Pre-health peer mentors work closely with our office to receive training. You will have the opportunity to work in conjunction with the Director of Pre-Health Advising and Mentoring and other mentors to establish a social network.

Application Criteria: Juniors and seniors who have completed 60 or more credits at UM and have a minimum 3.5 GPA in science courses are eligible to apply.

Applicants must serve as mentors for the full academic year (fall and spring semester). At the beginning of the fall semester, each mentor will be assigned 10-15 mentees by the Office of Pre-Health Advising and Mentoring. Mentors commit to 4-6 hours each month during the academic year and will be required to attend a mandatory orientation and a few group mentor meetings throughout the academic year. Mentors will be asked to write a report on how often they met with their mentees and the outcomes of the meetings.

If accepted as a peer mentor, you will be notified of acceptance and the date of orientation via email. Peer mentors receive a $75 stipend per semester.
