Prospective Mentors

The goal of the pre-health peer mentor program is to help pre-health students experience UM to the fullest. Pre-health peer mentors work closely with our office to receive training. You will have the opportunity to work in conjunction with the Director and Assistant Director of Pre-Health Advising and Mentoring and other mentors to establish a social network.

Application Criteria: Juniors and seniors who have completed 60 or more credits at UM and have a minimum 3.5 GPA in science courses are eligible to apply.

Interested peer mentors must complete and submit the application, click here for the application, by Friday, October 16, 2015.  Then, in mid-October, we will determine how many mentors we need based on the number of mentees who signed up.  Mentors will be notified of acceptance by November 1 and will be matched with mentees later that month.  Mentors will attend an orientation with Prof. Gaines and Dr. Plantan at the start of the spring 2016 semester and then will have their first official meeting with their assigned mentees shortly thereafter.  Mentors will continue to meet regularly with their mentees throughout the spring semester.  Mentors will be required to submit a report at the end of the spring 2016 semester.  Pre-health peer mentor semester-end reports must include detailed information of meeting dates/times, names of attendees, meeting outcomes, and other pertinent data.  Formatting details will be provided during orientation.  Pre-health peer mentors will receive a $75 stipend at the end of spring 2016.  Report submission is required prior to stipend payment processing.
