Graduate Assistantships are awarded by individual University departments and are subject to employment guidelines as specified by the hiring department and the Graduate School. Students should contact their academic departments for available assistantships. Graduate students must be admitted for graduate work at the University of Miami before they are eligible to work as Graduate Assistants. Student Employment oversees established procedures and practices related to the payment of stipends (monthly) and other wages (hourly and bi-weekly) offered, awarded and approved through graduate assistantships, research assistantships, teaching assistantships, fellowships and other student employment programs. All policies related to requirements, agreements, compliance and assistantship conditions and responsibilities are established and regulated by the Graduate School. Academic and program compliance and matters, other than payroll processing, are the responsibility of the student's home department in conjunction with the Graduate School.
International graduate students should consult with the Office of International Student and Scholar Services for specific regulations governing international students graduate assistantships. As part of the hiring process, students may be asked to complete the following forms and/or procedures (always check with the hiring department for specific forms/processes needed).
