Testing and Evaluation Services, formerly the Testing Center, coordinates machine scanning and scoring of tests and surveys, online and paper-based administration of faculty/course evaluations, and other measurement services.  The office is located on the Coral Gables campus* (map) in the Ungar Computing Center, room 339.  For general information, please call 305-284-2450 weekdays.

  • Scoring tests
  • Testing and Evaluation Services operates optical mark sense readers for scoring multiple choice (single-response) tests.  The standard UM test scoring forms allow up to 200 test items with a maximum of five choices per item.  For instructions on standard processing, click Test/Survey scoring instructions* or call 305-284-2450 to receive a free printed copy by inter-office campus mail.

  • Faculty evaluations
  • Colleges and schools at the University of Miami may now administer faculty/course evaluations efficiently on the web using CoursEval™ from connectEDU. Along with IT, the Testing and Evaluation Services group provides central support, including survey form design, personalized e-mail invitations and reminders, and summary report access. There is no direct cost to the school. Faculty may view their end-of-semester reports via myUM by clicking on “View my own instructor evaluations” under the Other Faculty Functions menu. Custom report features are available to designated administrators in the colleges and schools. Students complete surveys online at their convenience. When surveys are open, students may click on “Submit an instructor evaluation online” under the Course Registration menu in myUM. Survey responses are anonymous. Student names or e-mail addresses cannot be connected to any survey data. No survey results are released to faculty until after final grades are posted.

  • National and State tests
  • The University of Miami has discontinued hosting national and state exams on campus.  To locate a test site near you, please consult information provided by the testing program.

    • Survey design and tabulation
    • Testing and Evaluation Services provides consultation on the design of mail surveys.  Printing, scanning, and scoring services are also available. For instructions on standard processing, click Test/Survey scoring instructions* or call 305-284-2450 to receive a free printed copy by inter-office campus mail. One low-cost custom option is the universal survey form.  This form allows users to easily design and duplicate machine scannable surveys.  Universal survey forms may be purchased from Testing and Evaluation Services.
