January 30, 2012 — Coral Gables — Join the University of Miami’s Chinese Student and Scholar Association and Asian American Student Association as they celebrate the Chinese New Year with a festival featuring the food, culture, and music of China. Marking the Year of the Dragon, the celebration will include the traditional Dragon dance and a tea ceremony. It will be held on Monday, January 30, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the University Center Patio. Highlights will include:
6:30 p.m. – Tents with displays of various aspects of Chinese culture, such as the tea ceremony, Kung Fu, Chinese opera display, arts and crafts, calligraphy, and regional dress. Attendees will be offered dumplings, which are typically eaten during the New Year’s celebration.
7 p.m. – Four dragon dance teams will lead students from the residential colleges to the UC Patio.
7:30 p.m. – Dragon dance teams will arrive at the UC Patio and lead UM President Donna E. Shalala on stage for opening remarks. Stage performances start immediately after the president’s remarks.
