Rosenstiel School Students Host Annual Rummage Sale, Auction to Support Student Travel/Research

September 22, 2009 — Virginia Key — The Marine Science Graduate Student Organization (MSGSO) at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science will host its 12th annual benefit auction and will host a rummage sale to support student travel and research on October 1 and 2.

WHO: The MSGSO represents nearly 200 students who are pursing advanced degrees in marine biology and fisheries; marine geology and geophysics; applied marine physics; meteorology and physical oceanography; marine affairs and policy; and marine and atmospheric chemistry.

WHY: The goal of this event is to raise money to support the Student Travel Fund, which pays for students to travel to scientific conferences to present their work, to participate in fieldwork, and to take part in internships. Each year, thusfar, has been a resounding success as people from Key Biscayne and Miami communities have turned out alongside students, faculty and staff of the Rosenstiel School to support the auction. It is the student’s biggest fundraiser of the year by far! Last year, the auction brought in approximately $12,000, which were used by very deserving graduate students.
