October 27, 2009 — The University of Miami School of Architecture’s Center for Urban & Community Design [CUCD] is teaming up with the Coral Gables Museum to present South Florida’s version of the nationwide design/build competition known as "Canstruction." Students, faculty, staff and/or alumni will be competing for the title of “Best Canstruction” by using cans of food to build a creative structure of their choice. After the competition, all cans will be donated to local families in need through Camillus House.
Friday, November 6
12 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Building the structures
2:00 p.m. Judging and award
University of Miami School of Architecture Courtyard, Coral Gables campus, 1223 Dickenson Drive.
Teams may bring their own cans to the event or drop them off ahead of time, either inside Glasgow Hall, Korach Gallery, CUCD office, or by the Academic Services’ office; all located at the School of Architecture. Those who wish to solely contribute to the food drive may use the same drop-off areas or contact the CUCD office to arrange pick-up. Cans will be distributed evenly, based on the number of teams registered. Pizza to all participants and the winning team will receive a prize.
