September 29, 2011 — The University of Miami School of Architecture is proud to announce the upcoming exhibition “13 Young Architects in Florida,” which will showcase the best in Florida architecture and design. The works will be on display from October 5 through 30 in the Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center on the University’s Coral Gables Campus.
Following a call for portfolios, 13 young architects, 40 years of age or younger, have been asked to present a selection of their work. They have been selected by a panel consisting of three young architects – Rachel Valbrun (UM), Benjamin Malik (FIU), Stefan Horner (Herzog & DeMeuron, Miami-NY) , and architecture critic/author Beth Dunlop. Curated by the architects themselves, this exhibition presents drawing, models and digital material. It highlights new and already confirmed talent at work in Florida and around the world.
Opening night on October 5 will include an exhibition reception and a panel discussion in the Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center. The panelists include James Cornetet (Process Architecture), Michael Halflants (Studio for Modern Architecture), Nikolai Nedev (NC-Office), Carie Penabad (Cure & Penabad Architects), and Stefan Horner (Herzog & De Meuron). The program begins at 6:00 p.m. The exhibition, panel discussion and reception will be free and open to the public.
