August 10, 2010 — Las Vegas — Tamika Henry, a recent graduate from the University of Miami, was recently crowned Miss Guyana Universe and will compete in the Miss Universe Pageant on August 23 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As a student leader and a sister of the University of Miami's chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Incorporated, Henry has gained company sponsors stating, "she has overwhelming confidence and has a passion for women empowerment...We have faith and confidence in Tamika – we are definitely backing the winner.”
At the University of Miami, Henry received many accolades and was an active student leader on the Coral Gables campus. She received a Bachelor’s degree in forensic science with minors in chemistry, psychology and political science. During her last year at UM, she was the Caribbean Students Association President; the Hammond Butler Inspirational Choir President; Vice President of Recruitment for Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Incorporated; and the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations Secretary. She was also initiated into Rho Lambda Honor Society and the Order of Omega Honor Society. "Tamika was a very involved and excellent student leader during her years at UM. In addition, her academic accomplishment of earning her degree and successfully completing three minors is commendable,” said Richard Walker, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.
“We are very proud of her accomplishments and wish her much success as she competes for the Miss Universe title."
