Raising Earth Week Awareness

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (April 22, 2014) — Dozens of University of Miami students, staff and faculty turned out at Lake Osceola Tuesday afternoon for the annual “Hug the Lake” event to mark Earth Week celebrations.

The lake event, organized by Random Acts of Kindness, is one of several Earth Week events taking place on campus to bring attention to protecting the environment and educating the community about sustainable initiatives. The week is being hosted by the Energy and Conservation Organization Agency, a UM student group that helps determine and implement sustainable programs to “green” the U.

Other events taking place this week include:

Wednesday, April 23: Food Day at the Rock from noon to 2 p.m.

Thursday, April 24: Arboretum Picnic at the Arboretum from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Friday, April 25: Reduce Your Carbon Footprint at the Rock from noon to 2 p.m.
