Miller School Ranked No. 1 by Hispanic Business Magazine

Schools of Business Administration and Law also highly ranked.

Coral Gables (September 06, 2011) — The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is the No. 1 medical school in the country for Hispanic students, according to Hispanic Business magazine’s 2011 report on the Top 10 Medical Schools for Hispanics. Since 2006, the magazine has ranked the Miller School in the top 5. For the past two years the school has come in at No. 2 on the list.

“We are pleased that our commitment to diversity continues to be recognized, and to finish this year as the best medical school for Hispanics, the fastest growing community in the U.S., is an outstanding accomplishment,” said Pascal J. Goldschmidt, M.D., senior vice president for medical affairs, dean of the Miller School, and CEO of University of Miami Health System (UHealth). “Training a diverse population of physicians, reflective of the patients they will be caring for, is an integral component of our 21st century mission as a medical school.”

Two other UM schools are also ranked in the report. The School of Business Administration is ranked No. 5, while the School of Law is ranked No. 6.

The rankings are based on questionnaires filled out by the schools, reporting on enrollment, retention and graduation rates, faculty, and student services.

“We take very seriously our obligation to graduate physicians who are well prepared to advance the health of an increasingly diverse nation,” said Robert L. Hernandez, Jr., M.D., senior associate dean for medical student administration. “To meet that obligation, the Miller School strives to matriculate and graduate students from all walks of life who are committed to becoming leaders in health care, research, education, and service to the community.”

The 2011 Best Schools for Hispanics report features top 10 lists in the fields of medicine, law, business, and engineering.
