October 13, 2009 — Coral Gables — The School of Education will hold a special lunch titled “Investing in Florida’s Future” on Thursday, October 22 at Hurricane 100 at the Bank United Center, 1245 Dauer Drive in the Coral Gables campus.
The luncheon’s speakers will explore how community and business leaders can invest in early childhood education to improve education as well as Florida’s economic future. BBU Bank has underwritten the event. The event is sponsored by the School of Education (SEC), the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Miami Business Forum and the Partnership for America’s Economic Success.
Dennis P. Lockhart, the president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta will speak, as will David Lawrence, Jr., president of The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation. UM President Donna E. Shalala and Dean of the School of Education Isaac Prilleltensky will also make remarks.
Lockhart has become a national advocate for investment in early learning and school readiness. Lawrence will be sharing the results of a statewide poll and listening sessions with leaders around the state. The poll was done by Sergio Bendixen and Associates, and Brian Nienaber of The Tarrance Group. Both Bendixen and Nienaber will be present at the luncheon. Both Bendixen and Nienaber will speak at the event.
