Haitian Mental Health Summit

June 23, 2010 — Coral Gables — WHAT: Haitian Mental Health Summit. The Summit is organized to raise awareness of the post-earthquake mental health needs in Haiti and to foster collaboration to address those needs. It is jointly supported by the Haitian American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and University of Miami School of Education.

Other than members of the press, attendance is by invitation only.

The objectives of the Haitian Mental Health Summit are:
a) Increase awareness of the mental health situation in Haiti and among affected members of the Haitian community in the U.S. and Canada.
b) Foster coordination and collaboration among an interdisciplinary group of Haitian mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers) in addressing the mental health situation in Haiti and in the Diaspora.
c) Develop specific strategic goals and action plans for working collectively in addressing mental health needs of Haitians.
d) Create a network of Haitian mental health professionals aimed at addressing mental needs of Haitians.
