Root will discuss Office Space, Unthinkable, and other film and TV work.
Coral Gables (November 09, 2012) —
One of today's most prolific character actors, Stephen Root will discuss his experiences in film and television production and his approach to bringing a dazzling variety of characters to life during three events at the University of Miami in November. Screenings of two of his films, including cult favorite Office Space, and a special conversation with Root will give visitors an inside look at his life and work.
“Steve and I have been great friends since we were theatre students in college,” says Henry Fonte, chair of UM’s Department of Theatre Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences. “I’m thrilled that he is coming to UM to share some of his experience and his extraordinary talent with our students. His is, in many ways, the career model we want for our students: a constantly working actor with a very solid base in craft. He can do it all. His range, as you will see from his reel, is limitless.”
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
November 10, 6 p.m., Bill Cosford Cinema, 1111 Memorial Drive, Coral Gables
This beloved cult film tells the misadventures of a group of friends—all disgruntled employees of a large, dysfunctional software company—and their oddball colleagues. Root gained a huge following with his hilarious appearance as the film's hapless Milton, who adores his red stapler and just might have a few surprises up his sleeve when he is wronged once too often.
November 11, 6 p.m., Bill Cosford Cinema, 1111 Memorial Drive, Coral Gables
In Unthinkable, Root plays a CIA liaison to a mysterious "independent contractor" (Samuel L. Jackson) who uses harrowing techniques to coerce information from uncooperative suspects.
An Evening with Actor Stephen Root
