The University of Miami Information Technology Security (UMITS) group’s objective is to protect UM’s data resources from internal and external cyber-security related threats by implementing industry-accepted security practices in IT planning, implementation, management, and operations, focusing on the following initiatives:

    Devising techniques for cost-effective security measures that appropriately safeguard IT systems and proprietary information;
  *
    Developing programs that validate security in IT systems and services, which in turn form the basis for continuous improvement initiatives; 
  *
    Educating the UM community concerning IT risks, vulnerabilities and protection requirements, particularly for new and emerging technologies.
