In theory, a temp can be hired for any non-faculy or student position at the University of Miami. In practice, however, temps are mostly hired in the following positions:
Temporary workers are not eligible for the benefits that regular employees receive from the University. For example, they are not eligible for sick time, vacation time, and leave of absence, and they are not provided the University life and health insurances.[Back to Top]

Temps are paid a competitive salary that depends on the nature and requirements of the specific position. The paychecks are disbursed through direct deposit. For non-exempt employess, the paydays are every other thursday, and for exempt employees, the payday is the last working day of the month.[Back to Top]
You may apply for regular University employment while working as a temporary worker. In order to be considered for any non-faculty position, you must apply online at www.miami.edu/careers. It is the policy of the University to provide all employees, patients, students, customers, and visitors with as safe a working environment as is possible, and to promote the safe and efficient performance of job duties including the safe operation of University equipment and vehicles. In order to do so, the University must establish certain policies and procedures regarding the use and possession of intoxicants including drugs and alcohol.[Back to Top]
When applying for a position at the University of Miami, the applicant must disclose all previous convictions, even if they are moving vehicle and traffic violations. Having a past or current conviction will not preclude employment at the University, but hiding or not fully disclosing convictions is grounds for the withdrawal of application and termination of employment.
It is not necessary to include arrests on your criminal history if they did not result in a conviction. However, failure to disclose an arrest or conviction that took place after the date of hire is grounds for termination. An arrest during employment that is properly reported may result in a suspension pending a review of the case.[Back to Top]
Yes. All temps are submitted to a background check, and temps that have not worked at the University of Miami within the last 30 days are routinely drug tested as well.[Back to Top]
If a position requires contact with the elderly or children under the age of 18, the temp must also have a Level II Background Check, which includes fingerprinting.[Back to Top]
