What is required from me to obtain a Verification of Employment Letter?
If you are requesting a letter from the University, please contact the appropriate HR or Faculty Affairs Representative in an email with your request. Please provide to whom the letter should be made out to, and all the details that you would like on the letter i.e. Salary, Start date, etc.

Can the University disclose the reason for my separation?
No, the University will not and cannot disclose why any employee has left the University.

What is needed from a company for my information to be released?
The company will have to provide the University with an Authorization Release Form along with the Verification of Employment document. Please note that this form has to be signed by the employee whose information is being requested and be within a year of the signature. We cannot disclose any information if the signature is older than a year.

Can I call and verbally inform a UM Representative to release my information?
No, a written authorization is needed by the employee or a signed authorization of release form has to be forwarded to the appropriate HR / Faculty Affairs office.

Can my departmental supervisor or HR liaison complete the verification?
No, The verifications may only be completed by the appropriate HR / Faculty Affairs office. Any verifications received by the departments should be forwarded to the appropriate office.

What information cannot be disclosed to a company, even though they have a signed authorization of release form?
The University cannot disclose the following information:
  • Probability of continued employment
  • Applicant next pay increase
  • Projected amount of next pay increase
  • Date of applicant’s last pay increase
  • Amount of last pay increase
  • Reason of leaving/termination of employment

How long does the process of Verifying my employment take?
The turnaround time for Verifications are between 24 and 48 hours, but, we will try to get them out ASAP.
